Three daring female artists featured at LUMBERYARD In The City Winter Festival

Join us for a world premiere this winter, the closing performance of our third LUMBERYARD in the City Festival.

Over three weekends beginning Jan. 25, LUMBERYARD will feature the works of three daring and accomplished female artists.

2018 Winter Festival details

We kick off LUMBERYARD In The City on Jan. 25 with two works by Kei Takei and her company, Moving Earth Orient Sphere, returning to the United States for the first time in 17 years.

The performances are supported by the Consulate General of Japan in New York and the Japan-United States Friendship Commission and showcase the choreographer’s sustained synthesis of American and Japanese modern dance styles.

LUMBERYARD In The City Winter Festival also offers a New York premiere from veteran performer and Bessie- and Obie Award-winner Robbie McCauley as well as a world premiere from the fearless movement explorer Dana Reitz.

Presenting a never-before-seen work drives to the core of our commitment to connect audiences with world-class performance and the artists who create it.

LUMBERYARD Executive and Artistic Director Adrienne Willis shared her excitement about the Festival lineup:

“Over three seasons, we’ve had the privilege of showcasing performances by some of the world’s finest artists, across multiple genres,” she says.

“We’re beyond thrilled to continue in that vein this year, by presenting the works of three dynamic women who have been engaging and challenging audiences for decades with their cutting edge performances.

“We hope you’ll join us.”

Tickets are available here.

About LUMBERYARD In The City Festival

We launched LUMBERYARD In The City Festival to provide performance artists with crucial opportunities to premiere new works in the New York City area.

Since its beginning in 2016, more than 5,000 audience members have seen more than 30 performances from 10 artists.

Previously hosted during summers at New York City’s The Kitchen this year’s Festival makes the move to winter as we continue preparing for our inaugural season in Catskill, N.Y. where our new campus will open in 2019.

Adding to an extraordinary period of momentum for the organization, we also recently announced a new and historic collaboration with the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

Through this partnership, we’ll host three, week-long residencies at our new campus in Catskill, N.Y upstate. The works will go on to premiere at BAM’s Next Wave Festival.

The partnership marks the first time in BAM’s 156-year history that it has collaborated with a presenting organization on the development of multiple new works.
