Joining the growing Hudson Valley film industry

Our facility, which offers up to 12,000 square feet combined production space, is the first in Greene County to be designated for this purpose by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office of Motion Picture & Television Development.

Executive and Artistic Director Adrienne Willis says LUMBERYARD Studios is an important part of the organization’s commitment to supporting artists while also helping revitalize Catskill and the greater Hudson Valley.

“LUMBERYARD Studios means filmmakers will have world-class resources here in Catskill,” she says. “Our Qualified Production Facility designation from the State of New York is an incredible incentive to bring private investment and positive economic impact to the region. We’re proud to be a part of that effort.”

Speaking today with Deadline Magazine, Willis, joked: “People call it the Madison Square Garden of Catskill …One resident was telling me that he had never seen a crane as big as the one we had here.”

In recent years, Greene and Columbia counties have been the backdrop for notable productions, including:

Pros of filming in Upstate New York

Adding to Hudson Valley’s appeal as an ideal location for motion picture production is New York’s highly competitive Film Tax Credit Program.

For production based exclusively in Upstate, filmmakers are eligible for up to a 40% break on labor costs and up to 45% on post production costs.
