This weekend some of the most celebrated choreographers in the contemporary dance world toured the Catskill, N.Y. property where our Incubator program will soon be based.
We’re thrilled by our Artistic Advisory Board’s enthusiasm for the former lumberyard that we’re transforming into a facility where artists and their collaborators will be able to fine-tune new works before their premieres.
Arriving to the Hudson Amtrak station on Sunday afternoon, the group of six took a quick cab ride to Catskill, N.Y. and walked through the property, musing about the works they hope to bring here.
The board includes:
- Jodi Melnick
- Brian Brooks
- Dan Hurlin
- Jane Comfort
- Jawole Willa Jo Zollar
- Doug Elkins
They were especially excited about the construction of a 5,000 square foot state-of-the-art black box theatre that artists and designers will be able to reconfigure into a likeness of any space where they will be presenting.
The board has championed our Incubator since its inception, appreciating how sincerely contemporary dance artists benefit from having a well-resourced space where they can perfect new works before audiences see them for the first time.
“The new facility will make touring so much simpler,” Hurlin said.
“We can use tech at LUMBERYARD and address ahead of time any challenges we might encounter at our premiere or next tour stop.”
The board meeting concluded in the sun-soaked building what will one day be a studio overlooking Catskill Creek.
