We’re looking for students interested in the performing arts to join our free after school program.
From Sept. 18, Greene County School District students, who are enrolled this year in grades 4-10, are invited to Catskill Community Center each Monday for hour-long performance workshops.
No performance experience is necessary.
Start times
Participants will join one of two groups:
- ages 13-16 will meet from 4 – 4:50 p.m.
- ages 9-12 will meet from 5 – 5:50 p.m.
The program runs each Monday after school, between Sept. 18 and June 11, excluding school holidays.
What you’ll learn
Each class, you’ll work on a new performance skill – from experimental dance and music composition to contact improvisation, to clowning.
Melanie George, LUMBERYARD’s dramaturg and an experienced choreographer, will lead workshops in jazz, improvisation and composition.
Here’s a sneak peek at other workshops on offer:
- Acting with Oliver Wadsworth
- Contact improvisation with Colleen Thomas
- Choreography with David Parker
- Puppetry with Nehprii Ameni
- Clowning with CB Goodman
- Hip Hop with Ernest Baker
- Contemporary/modern dance with Paul Singh and Adam Weinert
- African diasporic dance with Efeya Sampson
Where you’ll perform
Participants in LUMBERYARD’s free after school program are invited to perform in a live, June 2018 production.
Who’s invited?
Greene County School District youth, who are this year enrolled in grades 4-10, are invited to sign up for LUMBERYARD’s free after school program.
We hope to see many new faces as well as those who recently joined us for the filming of a fundraising video for our Asbestos Angels Campaign.
Why Catskill, N.Y.?
We’re delighted to be hosting this free after school program in an area that has for too long been without arts programming.
We chose Catskill, N.Y. as the site for LUMBERYARD’s new space because we shared the town’s dream of building a creative community.
We believe creativity flourishes here because of the combined support of Catskill, N.Y. residents, local and regional government leaders as well non-profit sector leaders.
For this free after school program, we’re proud to partner with the Catskill Community Center – an established organization that provides a safe and positive environment for Greene County youth to spend their free time.
