JUNIOR CREW
In partnership with Columbia Greene Workforce Development NY, Lumberyard provides internships and on-the-job training to local teenagers, who also earn a summer wage.
Local high school students earn a summer wage while acquiring invaluable exposure to the inner workings of theater management, including the business, creative, and technical elements of production (e.g., crew load-in, ushering, box-office, and concessions). Modules also focus on life skills, such as accountability, attendance, work-place safety, and self-expression.
Junior Crew functions alongside and in tandem with our Hudson Valley summer presenting series, giving the students opportunities to meet some of the greatest contemporary performing artists working today. Where appropriate, LUMBERYARD also engages the Junior Crew for other events during the school year (e.g., our 2018 Grand Opening event as well as private event rentals).
Accomplishments to date: With two summers completed, 12 students have come through the Junior Crew program. In addition, at the request of Columbia-Greene Workforce NY, we also host academic-year interns. In 2019, Stewart’s Shops became a corporate sponsor for Junior Crew.
With additional investment, LUMBERYARD can double the size of the summer Junior Crew cohort by hiring a dedicated manager and hire more Junior Crew members during the school year to work at rental engagements.
